This small acrylic represents recent eveningsspent on Amelia Island with Dot.
Throughout my life the words Artist and Teacher have always been synonymous and I am thankful for the profound impact that “Teaching Artists” had on my development.
When I graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art, I felt an obligation to pass on my deep love of natural light painting to the next generation. So for 30 years in the classroom, I immersed myself into the marvelous experience of introducing students to the expressive qualities of color and light in their paintings.
The heart of my work centers on the color of light. It’s the time of day and season which collaborate to produce the vivid colors of the Floridian coast and the soft hues of a Tuscan landscape. Everywhere light and shadows merge to form shapes that create the structure and mystery often found in my paintings. Simple observations of light lead to complex explorations of bluish-greens containing hints of violets, suddenly revealing a lime edge accented by a cerulean halo. This fleeting moment invites me to slow down, to record and share my discoveries.
